Ankur School, Tumkur

This post has been created for Vinayak Umesh. Following pictures and text are all Vinayak's contribution.

Welcome to Ankur Shaalae
"I love my school Ankur, it is neat & tidy, we have a small garden, a centre stage and a small playground.  It is a school with difference, which tries to imbibe our traditional values along with curriculum. Curriculum includes academic, physical activities like Karate, Football, Volleyball and skill development mental activities such as craft making, art competitions and card makings."

"Principal of the school is Mrs. Sharmila Akka (we call all our teachers "Akka" in our school). She is kind and gentle. My school has classes starting from pre-primary to high. We celebrate many National days like, Environmental   Day, World Ocean Day, Independence Day etc.  Religious festivals like Gowri-Ganesha, Ramzan and  Christmas are also being celebrated.  We celebrate Annual day and  expo every alternative years. For the annual year  2014, we had a science expo (1-5th std), whereas higher class students   (from 6th to 10th std) enacted a drama on Children’s Rights. I along with my classmates, exhibited a model for “water treatment."

"I feel proud about my school, because beginning with 12 students and 3 teachers, within a period of 14 years now it’s a vital learning centre for almost over 300 students with  35 teachers. I feel proud about my school and my Akkas.."

Little ones of Amargol

Saturday I had been to Amargol to see the ancient Chalukyan Banashankari temple. While driving through the narrow lanes of the village I happened to pass by Hanuman temple and went in. A pleasant surprise: the village's Baalvadi is in the temple :)

Corollary of a proverb

Several requests to the little girl for a drawing were ignored. After months of waiting I came up a suggestion; draw few lines everyday until a picture is ready.

In the lines of a Kannada gaade maatu ಹನಿ ಹನಿ ಕೂಡಿದರೆ ಹಳ್ಳ a corollary was born- ಲೈನ್ ಲೈನ್ ಕೂಡಿದರೆ ಡ್ರಾಯಿಂಗ್.

I'm still waiting for the drawing :(

Kids prowling around for wood

Mahashivatri afternoon. The moment I saw this gang I knew they were roaming around looking for wood, coconut leaves and other combustible matter for their Kamanna. The gang was happy to pose for a picture.

I asked if they could stand in height order...

Look at the little fellow's expression, extreme right. I wonder how the gang would be on Holi. For sure each one of them would be howling and dancing wildly around the burning Kamanna.

Little girl and a crow

A three & half year old, sitting in a balcony with her granny, was taking her own sweet time to finish one chapati. Granny was after the little one to eat her chapati quickly... ಬೇಗ್ ಬೇಗ್ ಚಪಾತಿ ತಿನ್ನು. A crow on a near by tree started kawing; kaw kaw kaw... kaw kaw kaw. Little one told her granny "see even that crow is asking me to eat... काव काव" Granny was all smiles :)

Probably that crow was waiting for the little one to throw the chapati out of the balcony and/or the little one was looking for crow's help to finish the chapati. These little ones are smart... not as innocent as they seem to be.

This is the same little friend of Sounds within.

Vishwanath Lingareddi

The hyper-active six year old son of our office building owner.

Those are his muddy prints.

His poor little bike. He's done pooja to it on Amavasya.

That's his favorite toy.

I've seen him load it with dirt.

That's his dad's tipper and you can see his toy tipper in. I could see his hand marks... he's played out there!

He's made a garage for his tipper and built a dam for rain water gutter.

Sweet little kiddo he is.
