ಪಾನೀಯ ಮಾಡಿದ ಪಜೀತಿ!

 ಶಿವ - ಶಿವಾ...! ಈ ಲೇಖನ ಎಲ್ಲ ಬರಿಯೋದು ನನ್ನ ಹವ್ಯಾಸನೇ ಅಲ್ಲ... ಓದೋ ಹವ್ಯಾಸ ಏನೊ ಐತಿ. ಬರೆಯೋದು ಅಂದ್ರೆ ಮೈಯಲ್ಲ ಮುಳ್ಳು. ಆದ್ರೂ ಸಿದ್ದಿ ಕಾಟಕ್ಕೆ ಬರೀತೀನಿ. ನಾನು ಎಸ್ಟ್ ಆಲಸಿ ಅದೇನಿ ಅಂದ್ರ, ಸಿದ್ದಿ ಇರ್ಲಿಲ್ಲ ಅಂದ್ರ ಊಟ ಮಾಡಕೂ ಬೇಜಾರ್ ಮಾಡ್ಕೋತೀನಿ. ಹಂತಾದ್ರಾಗ ೧೫ ದಿನ ಸಿದ್ದಿ ಹಿಂದೆ ಬಿದ್ದ ಮ್ಯಾಲೆ ಈ ಲೇಖನ ಬರ್ಯಾಕತೇನಿ .

ನನಗೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ಸಿದ್ದಿಗೆ ನನ್ನ ಒಬ್ಬ ಗೆಳತಿಯ ಮಗನ ಹುಟ್ಟುಹಬ್ಬದ ಆಚರಣೆಗೆ ಆಮಂತ್ರಣ ಬಂದಿತ್ತು. ನಮ್ಮ ಜೊತಿ ನನ್ನ ಮತ್ತಿಬ್ಬರು ಗೆಳತಿಯರು ಇದ್ದರು. ಒಟ್ಟು ನಾಲ್ಕು ಜನ ಹೋಗೋದು ಅಂತ ಪ್ಲಾನ್ ಆಗಿತ್ತು. ನಮ್ಮ ಆಫೀಸ್ ಕೆಲಸ ಮುಗಿಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದಂತೆ ಸಿದ್ದಿ ನಮ್ಮನ್ನ ಆಫೀಸ್ ಇಂದ ಪಿಕ್ ಅಪ್ ಮಾಡಿದ್ರು. ಸರಿ ನಮ್ಮ ಸವಾರಿ ಗೂಗಲ್ ಮ್ಯಾಪ್ ತೋರಿಸಿದ್ದ ಕಡೆ ಹೊಂಟಿತು. ದಾರಿಯಲ್ಲೇ ಉಡುಗೊರೆ ಖರೀದಿ ಕೂಡ ಆಯಿತು.

ಲೊಕೇಶನ್ ನೋಡ್ತಾ ನಮ್ಮ ಕಾರು ನಿರ್ಜನ ಜಾಗಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂತು. ಇದೆಂತ ಜಾಗಾದಾಗ ಇಕಿ ಹುಟ್ಟುಹಬ್ಬ ಮಾಡಾಕತಾಳೋ ಮಾರಾಯ...! ಅಂದುಕೊಂಡ್ವಿ. ಆಮೇಲೆ ಮುಂದೆ ಹೋದಂಗ ಲೈಟ್ಸ್ ಕಾಣಾಕ ಶುರುವಾದವು. ನನ್ನ ಒಬ್ಬ ಗೆಳತಿ ಪರಿಮಳ ಖುಷಿ ಇಂದ ಅಲ್ಲೇ ಇರ್ಬೆಕ್ ನಡೀರಿ ಅಂದ್ಲು. ಅಲ್ಲಿ ನೋಡಿದ್ರ ರೋಡ್ ರೋಲರ್ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡತಿದ್ವು. ನಾವಂದ್ವಿ ಅಕಿಗೆ ನಿನ್ನ ಇಲ್ಲೇ ಇಳಸ್ತೇವಿ ನಿನ್ ಪಾರ್ಟಿ ಮುಗಸ್ಕೊಂಡ್ ಬಾ ಅಂತ. ಅಸ್ಟೊತ್ತಿಗೆ ಅಲ್ಲೇ ಒಂದ್ ಸಣ್ಣ ಬ್ಯಾನರ್ ಕಾಣಸ್ತು, ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಹುಟ್ಟುಹಬ್ಬದ ಶುಭಾಶಯದೊಂದಿಗೆ ದಾರಿನೂ ತೋರಸಿತ್ತು. 

ಅಂತೂ-ಇಂತೂ ಲೊಕೇಶನ್ ಸಿಕ್ತು. ಆದ್ರ ಜಾಗ ಮಾತ್ರ ಸುಪರೋ-ಸೂಪರ್! ಓಪನ್ ಗಾರ್ಡನ್, ತಣ್ಣನ ಗಾಳಿ. ಹೋಗಿ ಗೆಳತಿಗೆ ಮುಖ ತೋರಸಿ, ಹೈ ಹೇಳಿ ಒಂದ್ ಟೇಬಲ್ ಹಿಡದು ಕೂತ್ಕೊಂಡ್ವಿ. ಈ ಲೇಖನ ಬರೆಯೋಕೆ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಕಾರಣ ಮತ್ತು ಲೇಖನದ ಹಾರ್ಟ್, ಹೃದಯ, ದಿಲ್ ಅಂತಾರಲ್ಲ ಈಗ ಶುರುವಾಯ್ತು ನೋಡ್ರಿ...

"ಹುಟ್ಟುಹಬ್ಬಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದ ಫ್ಯಾಮಿಲಿಗಳು ಅಲ್ಲಿಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಂತುಕೊಂಡು, ಕುಳಿತುಕೊಂಡು ಮಾತನಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಎಷ್ಟೋ ಜನ ಹೆಂಡತಿಯರು ಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನು ಗಂಡನ ಕೈಗೆ ಕೊಟ್ಟು ಸೆಲ್ಫಿ ತಗೋಳೋದರಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ರು . ಬಂದ ಜನಕ್ಕೆಲ್ಲ ವೆಲ್ಕಮ್ ಡ್ರಿಂಕ್ ಸರ್ವ್ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಸರ್ವರ್ ಗಳನ್ನ ನೋಡಿ ನಾವು ಖುಷಿ ಇಂದ ವೆಲ್ಕಮ್ ಡ್ರಿಂಕ್ ತಗೊಂಡ್ವಿ. ಹಳದಿ ಬಣ್ಣದ ಪಾನೀಯ. ನಾನು ಇನ್ನೇನು ಎತ್ತಿ ಕುಡಿಬೇಕು ಅಂತ ಬಾಯಿ ಹತ್ರ ಒಯ್ದೆ, ಏನೊ ವಾಸನೆ. ನಾನು ಕುಡೀಲಾರದೆ ನನ್ನ ಗೆಳತಿಯರಿಗೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸಿದ್ದಿಗೆ ಕುಡಿದು ಹೆಂಗೈಯ್ತಿ ಅಂತ ಹೇಳ್ರಿ ಅಂದೆ. ಗೆಳತಿಯರ ಮುಖಗಳು ಪಾನೀಯ ಕುಡಿದ ಮೇಲೆ ವಿಕಾರವಾದವು. ಅದೆಂತ ರೆಸಿಪಿ ಇದ ಕೇಳ್ಬೇಕಿತ್ ನೋಡ್ ಅಂತ ಭಾಗ್ಯ ಅಂದಳು. ಕುಡೀಲಾರದ ಅದನ್ನ ಸುಮ್ಮನೆ ಬಿಟ್ವಿ. 

 ಒಂದು ನಲವತ್ತೈದು ನಿಮಿಷ ಆಗಿರ್ಬೇಕ್ ಮತ್ತ ಸರ್ವರ್ ಪಾನೀಯ ತಂದ. ಈ ಸಲ ಕೆಂಪಗಾ ಇತ್ತು. ಆದ್ರ ನಾನ್ ಹೆದ್ರಿ ನಂಗ ಬ್ಯಾಡಪ್ಪ ಅಂದೆ. ಭಾಗ್ಯ ಇದನ್ನು ನೋಡೇ ಬಿಡನ ಅಂತ ಒಂದ್ ಗ್ಲಾಸ್ ತಗೊಂಡ್ಲು. ಮತ್ತ ಅದ ಟೇಸ್ಟ್, ಬರೀ ಬಣ್ಣ ಬದಲಿ ಆಗಿತ್ತ. ನನ್ನೆದುರು ಒಬ್ಬ ಗಂಡ (ಮುಖ ನೋಡಿದ್ರ ಗೊತ್ತಾಗ್ತಿತ್ ಮದ್ವಿ ಆಗೇತಿ ಅಂತ) ಸರ್ವರ್ ನ ಕರದು ಪಾನೀಯ ತಗೊಂಡ. ನಾನು ಹೆಂಗ್ ಕುಡಿತಾನಪ ಇಂವ ಅಂತ ಭಾಳ ಲಕ್ಷ ಕೊಟ್ಟ ನೋಡಾಕತ್ತಿದ್ದೆ. ನನ್ನ ಗೆಳತಿಯರಿಗೆ ಮತ್ತ ಸಿದ್ಧಿಗೂ ನೋಡಾಕ್ ಹೇಳ್ದೆ. ಒಂದ್ ಗುಟುಕು ಕುಡದ ಅದ ವಿಕಾರ ಮುಖ ಮಾಡಿ ಅಂವ ಅಬ್ಬಾ ಏನೋಪಾ ಇದ...! ಕೆಟ್ಟದಾಗೈತಿ ಅಂದ. ನಮಗೋ ನಗು ತಡ್ಯಾಕ ಅಗ್ವಾಲ್ತ್ . ಅವನ ಮುಂದ ಒಂದ್ ೮ ಹೆಜ್ಜಿ ಇಟ್ರಾ ಕಸದ ಬುಟ್ಟಿ ಇತ್ತ. ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಕಾಕ್ ಎರಡು ಹೆಜ್ಜಿ ಬಂದ್ ನಿಂತ್ಕೊಂಡ. ನಾನ್ ಏನಾತಪ ಇವಂಗ ಅನ್ಕೊಂಡೆ. ವಾಪಸ್ ಹೋಗಿ ದೂರ ಕುಂತಿದ್ದ ತನ್ನ ಹೆಂಡತಿಗೆ ಕೊಟ್ಟ. ಅಕಿ ಖುಷಿ ಲೇ ಕುಡದ ಬಿಟ್ಲ. ನಾನು ಅನ್ಕೊಂಡೆ ಬಪ್ಪರೇ ಬಹದ್ದೂರ ಗಂಡ! ಅಂತ. ನನ್ನ ಫ್ರೆಂಡ್ ಗೆ ಅಂದೆ ಬಾಲೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಅಕಿಗೆ ಹೇಳೋಣಾಂತ. ಮತ್ತ ಬ್ಯಾಡ ಬಿಡ್ ಅವನೌನ ನಾವ್ಯಾಕೆ ಜಗಳ ಹಚ್ಚುದ ಅಂತ ಬಿಟ್ವಿ. ಆದ್ರ ನೆನಸ್ಕೊಂಡ್ ಕಣ್ಣಾಗ ನೀರ್ ಬರೂಹಂಗ ನಕ್ಕೆವಿ. ಅಂತಾದ ಏನ್ ಸಿಟ್ಟಿತ್ತೋ ಆ ಪುಣ್ಯಾತ್ಮಗ ಅಕಿ ಮ್ಯಾಲೆ ಅಂತ!!

Thumbe Hoovu

Thumbe Hoovu is the Kannada name for Leucas aspera. This bell-shaped velvety white flower is a wild plant which grows on its own. This flower has a mild aroma, it's used as an offering to Hindu deities, it's considered as one of the favorites of Shiva. The plant has medicinal properties, it's extract is used to cure stomach ailments and also treat certain snake bites & scorpion stings. This plant is said to repel mosquitoes.

Red Canna

This Canna plant, brought from a village near Sirisi, was planted in our apartment parking area on November 3, 2022. It was barely a foot high.

Canna, also called as Indian Shot, is a wild plant, doesn't need much care but it needs to be watered regularly like any other plant. This picture was shot two months later i.e. in the first week of Jan 2023. I have liked Canna since my childhood days. I remember using its leaves as little plates. Canna leaves are similar to banana leaves hence it is safe to eat from it. Canna has several names in Kannada such as Hoodingana, Charegundinagida, Sarvajaya and Kelaahoovu. The last one literally means banana-flower. In northern Karnataka it is commonly known as Kaadabaaligida, roughly meaning wild-banana-plant.

Initially, development seemed slow but the plant developed its roots first, from which sprouted another plant. Then in the third week of Feb 2023, it flowered for the first time. To the right of the Canna flower is another type of Canna, its leaves are slightly smaller. The second variety's flowers are smaller, it's petals are a narrow and long.

This flower stays fresh for 2 or 3 days, then drops away. Green pods with seeds grow in place of the flower. The pods turn brown or black as they mature. Its seeds are hard little black balls. Apparently this is one of the seeds used as beads in jewelry.

multiplying money-plants

Money-plant is one of the easiest plants to grow. All you need to do is get a cutting from another plant and stick it in dirt and water it regularly. Alternatively the cutting can be kept in water, in a few days the cutting will sprout roots, new leaves and grow normally.

We have a few plants at our home which have grown really well. I cut off the ends from two plants and placed them in wine bottles filled with water. Roots should start appearing in couple of weeks. Once the roots are one or two inches long, I'll shift them to a hanging pot.

 

I've always known this as money-plant. Its commonly called as Pothos or Golden Pothos or devil's ivy.

Guru Madiwaleshwara Gudi, Garag

A thought of bicycle ride to Garagada Guru Madiwaleshwara Mata had formed. Somehow the it was decided to just after Amavasya night.

December 24, 2022 I left home around 3-30 AM. I had ridden upto Garag cross on Dharwad-Belagavi highway. It would be the first time I'm venturing on Garag road. On this road are Tata group's two factories, an ancillary unit, Karnataka State Forest Academy, Forest Department Nursery and a nonfunctional distillery. On reaching Garag, I take one of the lanes leading to the Mata. The village was still sleepy, just a few dogs guarding their lanes. It was 4-50 when I reached the Mata. A group of 3 or 4 people were singing bhajan, probably it was an all night bhajan. This is the temple which houses Guru Madiwaleshwara's Samadhi.

Sri Guru Madiwaleshwara was a XIX Century saint, a contemporary of Shishunala Sharief. He is very well known and popular in north Karnataka. Garag Jatre is attended by devotees from Maharashtra. Guru Madiwaleshwara's parents are unknown, he was found in a banana plantation as an infant. He was adopted by Kittur Desai since the family had no children. He was an enlightened Atma even as a very young kid. Later when a son was born into Kittur Desai family, Madiwaleshwara was neglected and eventually insulted. Madiwaleshwara curses Kittur Desai family and leaves Kittur. He comes to Hangarki Desai who receives him with respect and donates land besides the stream here. Madiwaleshwara establishes a Mata here. The Mata building is just opposite this temple.

The old building of the Mata has been demolished for renovation purpose. I was a little disappointed to see the changes, but then changes take place.

The return journey started at 5-00 AM. On the way back, at Airtech junction, I changed the route towards Kelageri. I took a circuitous route back home and made it a 50+ km ride.
