Antz Walk-over

A overhead cable TV wire; from our office terrace to a pole on the other side of the street.

The wire serves as a bridge for these weaver ants. I've seen these ants in the mango tree close to our building. Now I got to know our friends go across the street to gather food.

This is a busy street with heavy traffic. Our friends have found a safe way across it. Really smart.

Ants are great explorers!

Plain Tiger under a mango leaf

Sunday morning I was at uncle's place for breakfast. While poori and vegetables got ready I went for a walk in the mango garden behind the house looking for spiders. Exploring the trees, I spotted this beautiful creature. My first thought why was it upside down? I approached it slowly and hurriedly took few shots expecting it to flutter away.

The little friend was unperturbed. Perhaps it was still cold and trying to get warm. The Tiger was flapping its wings real slow ...may be flapping is not the right word. Probably it wanted sun light to fall on its body too.

The Tiger continued to move wings for couple of minutes.

Sun light passing through the Tiger's wings casts a gold hue on the mango leaf.

The Tiger is absolutely still now.

I was happy my presence did not disturb my little friend.

'Spider Web' and 'Mesh in Leaf'

Looks like spider has drawn 'Laxman-Rekha' around it's victim.

This plant's leaves are similar to teak leaves.

Tiger spider

This spider was spotted in Botanical Garden of Karnataka University, Dharwad. The spider's legs have yellow & black bands hence called as Tiger spider. Its also called as Wasp spider. I managed to get shots of both dorsal and ventral views.

Ventral view
April 2022, I got to see a spider nest in a mango tree. After little research, it turned out to be a wasp spider's nest. Here's a link to the post- Wasp spider nest

Shots of the day

That's a mango leaf back-lit by sunlight.

Is that some kind of orchid which grows on tree trunks? I'm not sure.

Noticed the spider in the third picture?

Another spider

I shot this picture quite some time back. Thought I'll add it to the spidery collection. This guy looks like a ground-type, not a tree-type.

Another eight legged friend

Found this spider at Ajji's mango garden in Dharwad. Deepak told me this spider can spin webs 25 feet across. I took almost 10 mins to shoot this picture since the sun was getting into the lens.

Trying to get another shot, my arm brushed the web... the spider was a brave one... it moved just a couple inches from the center.
