a Native American saying

Received this beautiful card a few years ago from my friend Alexis Pilialohaeku'upu'uwai Higginbotham the ceramic sculptor.

This hand constructed card is a work of Barbara Barratt an artist from Santa Fe, New Mexico. Please do not make or produce imitations of this card.

Teaching and Learning

Quoting a few lines on teaching & learning from the book "Buddha and Basava" by H. H. Poojya Mahatapasvi Kumaraswamiji of Navakalyanamath, Dharwad. These lines are from the chapter "Basava and his work."

The business of a university is to teach but teaching implies learning. The spirit of learning is much better than the spirit of teaching because the vanity of teaching often tempteth a man to forget that he is a blockhead. The most inspiring teachers are therefore the most enthusiastic learners.

Sri Kumaraswamiji is better known through his ashram Tapovan at Dharwad.

Ayn Rand quote

"When you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing - When you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors - When you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don’t protect you against them, but protect them against you - When you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice - You may know that your society is doomed." -- Ayn Rand, "Atlas Shrugged", 1957

..applies to companies too.

Sometimes..
we need to be hurt in order to grow
we must fall in order to know
we must lose in order to gain
Some lessons are learned best through pain.

slip of the tongue

Where the tongue slips, it speaks the truth.
- An Irish proverb.

And when a near & dear one's tongue slips once too often, it hurts.

Happiness

Quote received by SMS
If everyone is happy with you.. then surely you have made many compromises in your life. If you are happy with everyone.. surely you have ignored many faults of others.

I felt, thoughts on the other side could be;
If everyone is happy with you.. then surely they have ignored many faults of yours. If you are happy with everyone.. surely they have made many compromises for you.

Words of Wisdom

Sharing a part of an email sent by a friend few days back.

Talent is God-given.....be Thankful;
Praise is man-given.....be Humble;
Success is self-given...be Careful.
- Tony Dungy

Remember:
Everyone has something to be Thankful for, something to be a little Humble about and most of all something to be careful of - Ego. Don't let your Ego get in your way when it comes to Success.
Even though it's Self-given (you must do the work), others have helped you along the way. Say Thanks to that person or persons today. You never know when you might change a Life.

Farmer quote

The very first quote, I'm seeing, related to farmers-

"The farmer is the only man in our economy who buys everything at retail, sells everything at wholesale, and pays the freight both ways" - John F. Kennedy

An old philosopher's axiom

Health is the greatest possession,
Contentment is the greatest treasure,
Confidence is the greatest friend,
Non-being is the greatest joy.

Quid Pro Quo

Quid Pro Quo.
Literally, this for that.
Nothing comes for free.

I read this Latin phrase in the novel The Chairman by Stephen Frey. I liked the book, gives a feel of what really goes on in the corporate world.
